The Link G4X range of engine management systems builds upon the previous G4+ ECUs by featuring an all new micro-processor, an upgraded communications chip and expanded data logging. These improvements allow for a more responsive and accurate tune, much faster download speeds and far greater internal data logging capacity.
The Link G4X StormX is a well priced, ‘mid tier’ wire-in ECU perfectly suited to 4, 6 or 8 cylinder engines that do not have an electronic ‘fly-by-wire’ throttle. If this feature is required, then the Link G4X XtremeX or G4X FuryX ECU’s would be better suited.
The G4X StormX ECU has the following key features:
- 8 Injector Drives
- 8 Ignition Drives
- 8 Auxiliary Outputs (Fan, Boost control, idle speed control, etc.)
- 8 User-configurable Analog Inputs (wide-band O2, oil pressure, boost adjust knob, etc.)
- 3 User-configurable Temperature Inputs
- 2 dedicated trigger inputs
- 8 User-configurable Digital Inputs
- 2 Channel closed loop knock control
This is plenty for most applications, but if you require even more inputs and outputs or E-throttle control, we recommend the Link G4X XtremeX or G4X FuryX ECU. Furthermore, if ‘peak and hold’ injector drives are required, then we recommend either the Link G4+ Xtreme Black or G4+ Thunder ECU’s.
G4X ECUs do not require the use of an air flow meter. The engine can be converted to speed density using a MAP and intake air temperature (IAT) sensor. These sensors are available separately.
Once the installation is complete the G4X allows a good tuner to achieve an optimal tune to get the most out of any combination of modifications.
The G4X StormX comes with a non-engine-specific base map. The ECU will need to be configured for the engine type and tuned via the free tuning software, PCLink.
The G4X Storm comes with a USB tuning cable. In most cases the G4X can use all of the factory sensors except IAT.
A Loom kit must be purchased. These are available in 400mm, 2.5m, 5m. The 2.5m and 5m loom options with this product listing include the NZEFI wiring looms as they offer better temperature and corrosion resistance for a slightly cheaper price. However, the original Link branded looms can still be purchased separately if required (see separate product listing for these).
The Link G4X StormX uses 2 looms, referred to as an ‘A Loom’ and a ‘B Loom’. For basic 4 cylinder applications, it is possible to use the ‘A Loom’ only. If additional inputs like closed loop knock control are required, or if the ECU is intended to be used on a 6 or 8 cylinder engine running coil-per-cylinder ignition and/or sequential injection, both the ‘A Loom’ and the ‘B Loom’ will be required.
